Mini Chihuahua

A Mini Chihuahua is not a size variety of the breed, because it’s not registered by kennel clubs and breed registries. Actually, the Miniature (or Tiny Toy, Pocket Size, Tea Cup, or Tinker Bell) Chihuahua is the most popular dog among those that are not recognized. Lack of official recognition doesn’t make undersized Chihuahuas less popular among impulsive buyers who obtain such dogs as toys or as a matter or fashion and prestige.

While full-sized Chihuahuas are very hardy, healthy, and long lived dogs, a Mini Chihuahua has a shorter lifespan and is prone to a number of genetic disorders. Mini Chihuahuas are extremely difficult to breed, as they are very weak and unable to carry and give birth. Every Miniature Chihuahua is actually born from full-sized parents that are a little smaller in size or have very small dogs in the bloodline.

The only secret of the Miniature Chihuahua’s popularity is its size. It’s the smallest dog in the world. As for other characteristics of the breed, Mini Chihuahua owners don’t usually take them into consideration. Most fanciers of such dogs don’t even consider them to be dogs and treat them like hamsters. They don’t think about training or socializing a little dog. Such attitude to a canine results in a number of behavior problems and turn a pet into a little monster.

Chihuahua dogs are very sensitive and possessive by nature. They need a special care and much attention to be happy. Without proper care, these dogs tend to become nervous, easily agitated, obstinate, possessive, too aggressive, jealous, and territorial. If the owner cannot devote much time to the puppy, it will take much time to housebreak. Small size and fragile body structure of a Mini Chihuahua means that the owner must protect the dog, but not treat it as a toy. Like all dogs, Mini Chihuahuas need daily walks and enough exercise to burn off their energy. The problem with these dogs is that they get tired quickly and need special clothes to protect them from cold and excessive heat. A Mini Chihuahua should have enough space indoors to run and play.
