Miniature ChihuahuaThe Miniature Chihuahua is one of the terms invented by irresponsible breeders who produce smaller dogs of this breed and sell them for a much greater price. Such dogs are also referred to as “mini,” “pocket,” “teacup,” and “tiny toy.” All these terms can be used to describe too small dogs, but they are never officially used. Undersized Chihuahua dogs though very popular are not officially recognized by the AKC and other canine registries. It’s very difficult to find pro-Miniature Chihuahua resources, except for websites of profit-oriented backyard breeders, of course. Many websites of Chihuahua fanciers and breeders disapprove of undersized dogs because of unethical methods of their breeding. Actually, smaller Chihuahuas are bred from the unhealthy parents who were the runts of their litters. Smaller puppies are often undernourished and kept in poor conditions. Most Miniature Chihuahuas seem to be healthy and active, but they tend to develop serious health issues later in life and have a shorter lifespan compared to full-sized dogs. Inbreeding and poor breeding practices are often used for producing smaller dogs. By buying a Miniature Chihuahua you vote for cruelty to animals and encourage producing sickly dogs. Miniature Chihuahuas are bred for their size only. Breeders of such dogs don’t try to improve the health or the exterior of the bloodline with every new litter. Most buyers of Miniature Chihuahuas obtain them as a matter of prestige or because they want to have a cute little creature. They don’t care about the personality of the dog and actually don’t see the dog in a pet. They treat it like a kitten or a hamster and don’t care about its specific needs. Like all dogs, Chihuahuas need much communication with the owner. To enjoy your life with a small dog, you have to socialize and train it. Training Chihuahuas is different from training other dogs. These little creatures are very sensitive and don’t respond to harsh methods of training and drill. If the owner can find an approach to the dog, they soon learn to understand each other. A Miniature Chihuahua is generally described as very intelligent and eager to serve. ![]()
